Glashütte—a small town tucked away between forests and hills, south of Berlin and near Dresden—is located in the eastern Ore Mountains. The watches made in Glashütte are world-famous, and the watchmakers also count amongst the world leaders in fine watchmaking. What they and the designers, watchmakers, and toolmakers can do here are things that their colleagues elsewhere would struggle to do—because watches have been made in Glashütte for many generations, since 1845, in fact. Watches with unique features that can only be found here; watches of the highest quality.

NOMOS Glashütte (240 employees, a number of patents, more than 130 awards for watchmaking performance and design) is the watchmaking firm in the town that keeps innovating—we also have watchmakers that are practicing their craft in the fifth generation. And yet, our watches and we are modern and cosmopolitan. For we try to combine the best of these very different worlds—with success.

Traditional craftsmanship here, high tech production methods there: Both of these combine to make our watches individual pieces with the highest precision. And all this Glashütte watchmaking craft is presented with just as much love: entirely modern, but never subject to fashion. An expert team of designers in the creative capital Berlin shapes the dials, the hands, and the cases of our watches to ensure that they appeal—for years to come, with every glance at the time, several dozen times a day.

Entirely new and a small sensation: Aside from developing and producing the watch movements in-house, NOMOS Glashütte has also researched and developed its own escapement (which sounds easy, but isn’t really), and was able to present its own escapement in March 2014: the heart of the watch, which the entire watchmaking industry had to source from Switzerland until now. We call it the NOMOS swing system. “NOMOS breaks the Swatch Group monopoly,” read the newspaper headlines. For us, it means that we can remain independent, continue to determine our qualities for ourselves, and keep offering fair prices. A beautiful example: the new neomatik series from NOMOS Glashütte. Thanks to the DUW 3001 caliber at their heart, these fifteen elegant automatic watches are ultra-thin, highly precise—and still remain affordable.
